About VVSG

The Voluntary Voting System Guidelines are a set of requirements maintained by the Electoral Assistance Commission, which was established under the terms of the 2002 Help America Vote Act to establish those guidelines. The initial VVSG was published in 2005, I will refer to it as VVSG05. A new draft, which I optimistically call VVSG08 and pessimistically call VVSG++, is being worked on by the National Institute of Science and Technology.

The current draft of VVSG++ is currently in it’s first public comment period. The VVSG Open Forum is a website devoted to compiling and discussing comments on the standard. It’s an excellent tool and I would recommend anyone with an interest in the topic spend some time reviewing comments in addition to getting to know the standard itself.
